Quick summary: RunwayBrief does not require you to create an account and we do not know who you are. We collect only the minimum information needed to deliver aviation weather, send optional notifications, understand app performance, and fix problems. We never sell your data.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Liana Solutions Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and shares information when you use the RunwayBrief iOS application (“RunwayBrief”, “App”).
We are based in Australia and handle personal information in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and, where relevant, data protection laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
This Privacy Policy applies to the RunwayBrief iOS application and our public website at runwaybrief.app (together, the “Services”), unless stated otherwise.
This Policy is for information only and is not legal advice. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 No User Accounts
RunwayBrief does not require or provide user accounts, log-ins or profiles. We do not ask you for your name, email address or other contact details in order to use the App.
2.2 Information You Choose to Provide
- Support communications. If you contact us by email or through any support channel, we collect the information you choose to provide (such as your name, email address and message) so we can respond.
- Feedback and bug reports. If you voluntarily send screenshots, logs or other materials, we will receive whatever you choose to share.
2.3 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, certain information is collected automatically. This information does not directly identify you, but may be considered personal information in some jurisdictions.
- Device information. Device model, operating system version, language, region, and App version.
- App usage data. Screens viewed, features used, taps and interactions, including airport identifiers and search terms you enter, and basic timing information (for example, when the App is opened and closed).
- Technical identifiers. Randomly generated identifiers used by the App and third-party SDKs (such as a RunwayBrief installation ID, OneSignal device ID, or analytics IDs). We do not attach your real name or email address to these IDs.
- Crash and performance data. Error messages, stack traces, and technical data that help us identify and fix crashes and performance issues.
- Purchase information. Subscription status and purchase history, provided by Apple through RevenueCat. We never receive your payment details.
- Apple Ads attribution (version 1.1 onwards). We use Apple's AdServices attribution through RevenueCat to learn which Apple Ads campaign, ad group or keyword led to an installation, where that information is available. The attribution record may also include an ad identifier, whether the ad was tapped or viewed, and the time of that engagement. RevenueCat stores this information against the App's randomly generated installation ID and shares attribution information with PostHog for analytics, including measuring subscription revenue by campaign or keyword. This does not require an App Tracking Transparency prompt. We do not use it for cross-app profiling or share it with advertising networks or data brokers.
- Network information. IP address and basic device/network metadata, which may reveal your approximate location (e.g. city or region) and are typically stored in server or service logs.
2.4 Location Data
The App can optionally use your device location to find airports near you. This is fully optional.
- The App will only access location data if you grant permission in your device settings.
- You can withdraw permission at any time through iOS Settings, and the App will still work (you can search by airport code instead).
- Location coordinates are used to perform nearby-airport searches and to tailor data to your area. We do not use location data to build a movement profile of you.
- Coordinates are sent to our server only to find nearby airports; they are not stored or logged.
2.5 Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your personal flight logs or operational flight plans.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, calendars, or messages.
- We do not collect payment card information (all payments are processed by Apple).
2.6 Website Visits and Logs
When you visit our website, our hosting provider may collect standard server logs such as your IP address, browser type, operating system and the pages you visit. We use this information to operate the website, maintain security and understand basic traffic patterns. We do not use the website to run targeted advertising.
2.7 Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website currently does not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. If we introduce analytics or other optional cookies in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and, where required, provide an appropriate notice or choice mechanism.
3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 To Provide and Maintain the App
- Deliver aviation weather data, radar imagery and related information.
- Store your local preferences and favourites on your device.
- Enable optional features such as push notifications and widgets.
3.2 To Improve the App
- Understand which features are used and where users encounter issues.
- Debug crashes and performance problems.
- Plan improvements and prioritise new features.
- Measure which Apple Ads campaigns and keywords lead to installations and subscription revenue (version 1.1 onwards).
3.3 To Communicate With You
- Respond to support requests and feedback you send us.
- Send important service messages about critical changes, outages or updates (for example, via in-app messaging or push notifications, where enabled).
3.4 To Comply With Law and Protect Rights
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
- Protect the App, our users and our legal rights (for example, to investigate misuse or security incidents).
4. Push Notifications
If you opt in to push notifications, we will use your device’s push token and a randomly generated identifier to send alerts (for example, weather or feature-related notifications). The App associates:
- a locally generated RunwayBrief identifier; and
- a device identifier provided by OneSignal (our push provider),
with your notification preferences (such as favourite airports and alert types). We do not know your real-world identity from this information.
You can disable push notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (where applicable)
Where privacy laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) apply, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: to provide the App and its features to you.
- Legitimate interests: to improve the App, keep it secure and understand usage, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Consent: for optional features such as location access and push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time via your device settings.
- Legal obligations: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.
6. How We Share Information
6.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
6.2 Service Providers and SDKs
We use carefully selected third-party service providers to help us operate the App. These providers process data on our behalf under agreements that limit their use of the data.
- OneSignal – delivers push notifications and manages device tokens and preferences. OneSignal Privacy Policy
- PostHog – provides product analytics and event tracking so we can understand feature usage. PostHog derives an approximate location (city/country) from your IP address and receives Apple Ads attribution information from RevenueCat for acquisition and subscription-revenue analytics in version 1.1 onwards. This information is associated with the App's randomly generated installation ID. PostHog Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat – manages subscriptions and in-app purchases, processing a randomly generated app ID, purchase history and App Store receipts. In version 1.1 onwards it also collects Apple Ads attribution through AdServices and shares attribution information with PostHog for analytics. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
- Sentry – crash reports and performance data from RunwayBrief 1.0.x only; removed from version 1.1 onwards. Sentry Privacy Policy
6.3 Weather and Aviation Data Providers
The App uses aviation weather and radar data from third-party sources such as NOAA/NWS and other providers. Most weather data is fetched by our server, so providers don't see your device. Radar images for US airports are requested directly from NOAA by the App, so NOAA receives your IP address and the map area requested, as with any website.
6.4 Legal and Safety Reasons
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is reasonably necessary to:
- comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request;
- enforce our Terms of Use and investigate potential violations;
- detect, prevent or address fraud, security or technical issues; or
- protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public, or us.
6.5 Business Transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganisation or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
7. Data Storage and Retention
- On-device data. Favourites, settings and cached weather data are generally stored locally on your device and are removed if you delete the App. Favourites and preferences can sync between your devices through your own iCloud account (Apple CloudKit). We cannot access this data. Saved aircraft profiles for weight & balance stay on your device.
- Analytics and crash data. We retain analytics and crash information for as long as reasonably necessary for analysis and improvement, typically up to 2–3 years, unless a longer period is required for legal or security reasons.
- Support communications. Emails and other communications may be kept for as long as needed to manage your request and for a reasonable period afterwards for record-keeping, typically up to 3 years.
8. International Transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you are located. These countries may have different data-protection laws.
Where required, we take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as contractual protections, to protect your information when it is transferred internationally.
9. Your Rights and Choices
9.1 App and Device Controls
- Push notifications: enable or disable in iOS Settings.
- Location services: grant or revoke access in iOS Settings.
- App deletion: delete the App at any time to remove local data from your device. This does not automatically delete data held by third-party services (for example, analytics data held by PostHog).
9.2 Rights Under Certain Laws
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws, which can include:
- the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you;
- the right to request correction or update of your information;
- the right to request deletion of your information;
- the right to object to or restrict certain processing; and
- the right to data portability (to receive a copy of certain information in a usable format).
Because we generally do not know who you are, we may need additional information from you in order to identify data associated with your device or installation.
If you wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details at the end of this Policy. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.
10. Children’s Privacy
RunwayBrief is not directed to children under 16 and is intended for aviation-interested adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration. These measures include:
- encryption of network connections where appropriate;
- access controls and logging on systems that store or process data; and
- regular updates and monitoring of software and services.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and may provide additional notice within the App or by other means where appropriate.
If you continue to use the App after the updated Policy takes effect, your use will be subject to the new Policy.
13. Contact Us
