Frequently Asked Questions
Why is weather missing for my airport?
Not every airport reports METAR or TAF. Many smaller airfields have no weather station, some stations report only part of the day, and TAFs are issued for a limited number of airports. RunwayBrief shows what the official station publishes; if nothing is published, check a larger airport nearby.
Why can't I see radar, PIREPs or G-AIRMETs?
Radar, PIREPs and G-AIRMETs cover the US only. They come from US NOAA/NWS products, so they aren't available for airports outside the United States.
How do widgets and Apple Watch get their data?
Widgets fetch the latest weather for their airports from our server. iOS decides when widgets refresh (typically every 15 minutes or so, less often in Low Power Mode), and a widget shows its last saved data if an update fails.
The Apple Watch app receives your favourite airports and their latest weather from your iPhone. If it looks out of date, open RunwayBrief on your iPhone with your Watch nearby to sync it.
Notifications aren't arriving
- Check that notifications are allowed in the iPhone Settings app → Notifications → RunwayBrief, and that a Focus mode isn't silencing them.
- In RunwayBrief, open Settings → Notifications. Check your airports are selected and the alert types you want are on, then tap Apply Changes. Airports are chosen from your favourites.
- Weather Alerts are part of RunwayBrief Pro. If you reinstalled the App or changed devices, restore your purchase and turn notifications on again.
- Alerts are sent only when conditions at your airports change, so a quiet day means no notifications.
What's included in RunwayBrief Pro?
- Unlimited favourite airports
- All widget styles for the Home Screen and Lock Screen
- Weather Alerts for METAR changes, TAF updates, SIGMETs and significant wind shifts
- Detailed TAF forecast breakdown
- Live radar (US only)
- E6B flight computer, including weight & balance (from version 1.1)
Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription through the App Store.
Safety Note
RunwayBrief is supplemental. It is not an approved flight-planning tool. Always get an official weather briefing and check NOTAMs before you fly.
